With Melbourne Polytechnic.
In 2021, the Provan Family initiated contact with Melbourne Polytechnic, who now run the original Collingwood Technical School, located at 35 Johnston Street Collingwood. This School holds special meaning to the family, as founder David Provan was a School Council Member at its inception from 1912-1913. The idea was to honour David Provan and the Provan extended family with a legacy to an industry that played such a large part in their livelihoods.
The outcome of these initial discussions, included the involvement of Provans Timber and Hardware and a joint contribution to yearly scholarships for students studying Carpentry, Joinery and Cabinet Making. Plus an award for the most outstanding student of the year. Whilst the scholarships assist with the recipients tuition, the award encompasses a $500 voucher to be used at Provans. This is the perfect opportunity for the student, who is often an Apprentice, to purchase some tools for their trade.
We feel privileged to be involved in this initiative and honoured to share David Provan’s legacy.
